br />A university rebrand aims to dispel the perception that creative arts universities, such as Bath Spa, lack the hard edge needed to produce graduates who achieve well when they leave. 'Professional creativity' is the new byword for this university. As vice-chancellor Professor Sue Rigby put it: 'Creativity is our human superpower', and with admissions last September up by 1.5% to a new high, Bath Spa seems to be avoiding the kryptonite. Business, computing, teacher training and some science offerings are available alongside the liberal arts degrees. In addition to its three principal sites in and just outside of Bath, there is a new BSU London campus, in fashionable Hoxton, which hosts several BAs in business and management, as well as a BSc in health and 다파벳주소 social care management. The university is headquartered at Newton Park, four miles outside of Bath, with its grounds landscaped by Capability Brown. Those studying art and design are located at the Locksbrook campus in the city centre, while the textile courses are based at Sion Hill, in the Lansdown d

The Bath Spa bursary is targeted at students from the 40% of postcodes with the lowest rates of participation in higher education. It is worth £4,000 over three years for those from homes with up to £15,000 of residual income; £3,250 for students from homes with residual income of between £15,001 to £25,000; and £2,500 for those with a residual household income of between £25,001 and £42,875. Students who achieve at least AAB at A-level or equivalent, or exceed their predicted grades, are rewarded with a one-off £500 payment. A laptop fund provides up to £500 of support for students experiencing financial difficulty. Student Eats offers a £3 hot meal and drink across all campuses, the students' union serves soup for £1, and there are larders at Newton Park offering free non-perishable food to students in need. In all, the total student support package costs the university around £3.5m a year, with 3,300 students currently in receipt of bursaries. Budget accommodation begins at £3,159 for a 39-week contract. Although just seven twin rooms with shared bathroom are priced at this level, they are among the cheapest in the UK. The most expensive rooms cost £13,041 for a 44-week

Bath Spa has garnered accreditations to be proud of in recent years. It became the first university in the south-west to be awarded the Social Enterprise Gold Mark in 2022, and was praised in particular for providing good employment opportunities for students and linking them to the needs of the local community. Bath Spa is also one of a handful of Adobe Creative Campuses in the UK, which gives all students free access to Adobe software to boost their digital skills. Slightly more offbeat is the university's gold accreditation from the British Hedgehog Preservation Society for being a hedgehog-friendly campus. The opening of the new BSU London campus has helped boost enrolments in the past two years, with 3,000 more student acceptances in September 2023 than in September 2021. New degrees planned for next September include pharmaceutical science and music performance, while this month sees it welcome the first students for sports and media production, business and management and economics, economics and law, and forensic

Changes to the Ucas form, which will reveal more about applicants' personal circumstances, will trigger more contextual offers at Bath Spa. As a medium-tariff university with a standard A-level offer of BBC, it has not had much cause to employ them to ensure a socially mixed intake. 'In most cases, those who fall short of their offer are actually confirmed [in their place], but this is decided on a case-by-case basis,' the university told us. It has an extensive widening participation programme to support students from non-traditional backgrounds, too. Its Ignite scheme is delivered at all levels, from primary schools through to sixth form. While no modules are taught entirely online (unless they have been designed as a distance-learning course), the university is continuing to deliver some teaching online post-pandemic when it works well for large groups. However, all seminars and workshops are conducted in person. The university's Enhanced Support process and Support to Study procedures are embedded across all student services to identify students whose wellbeing may be significantly impacting their own or other people's university experiences. The procedures provide a supportive framework for struggling students to help them engage more effectively with their studies and university life. Mental health, access and wellbeing advisers are available to students alongside chaplains and GPs to provide a comprehensive web of support. The university now has 20 accredited care dogs (up from nine last year) that students can spend time with at wellbeing events and drop-in sessions. Bath Spa is one of a small number of universities that require students to attend a compulsory induction session on sexual consent, while offering non-compulsory sessions on drink, drugs and being an active bystander.
