This book was a labor of love and has completely taken a life of it’s own. These "Six Perfections" are innate human qualities that form a blueprint for living a virtuous life and transcending one’s karma. The six paramitas form the underlying structure of the poems in Yoga Heart: Lines on the Six Perfections. With a lot of the poems in this collection, I feel like the landscape, the external world, mirrors the speaker’s internal world. Yoga and poetry can be considered different art forms, but both have the same guiding principles - they both ask us to pause, pay attention, and to feel. Since yoga comes from India it made sense for those pictures to influence the art in the book. She is passionate about enabling people to use hatha yoga as a way to grow strength and resilience both in their bodies and their minds. While this pose can seem deceptively easy, it involves strength and a deep focus on posture. Usually translated as steadiness and ease or strength and comfort. Active grounding is the sthira, the steadiness, and is the base which provides the sukham or the ease and lift for the rest of the body.


This grounding down of the contact points with the earth is key in any active asana. On the physical level of asana practice, Rilke’s words remind us of the oft-quoted phrase from the Anusara Yoga tradition ‘root to rise’. Finding this level of balance relies on a lot of inner -strength, specifically in the legs and core. Tree pose is all about balance. If I really wanted to live my yoga in the world and not just in the yoga studio or on my mat, I soon realized, I had to bring it to every word and deed, no matter how small.
